Lenten Activities at Our Savior's

On February 22nd Our Savior's celebrated Ash Wednesday, the start of the season of Lent.  Roman Catholic, Lutheran and many other protestant churches use the season of Lent as a way of preparing for Jesus' death on a cross and ultimate victory over death on Easter Sunday. At Our Savior's we feel it is important to view Lent not only as a time of personal sacrifice but more importantly as a time to ask ourselves are we passionate about our relationship with God.  Each year, we use a different theme to dig deep, reflect on our faith and hold ourselves accountable.  Are we reading God's word regularly?  Are we spending time in prayer?  Are we telling others about the love of Jesus and encouraging them to know his love as well?  Lent is a perfect time to reflect on whether we are really being the disciples God wishes us to be.

This year our theme will be "Jesus is the Word" and will focus on the fruits of the spirit found in the Apostle Paul's letter to the Galatians.  Each week we will cover a different gift that the Holy Spirit brings to all of us.  Click here for more Information on each week's topic:

February 22nd--Ash Wednesday - Self-Control

February 29th - Faithfulness

March 7th - Peace

March 14th - Love

March 21st - Kindness

March 28th - Patience

We will start out each week with a light supper in the church Fellowship Hall from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.  We will then move into the Worship Center for a 30 minute service which will use a discussion forum type set-up where two facilitators will lead a discussion on that week's topic. The facilitators will ask questions and invite people to provide answers.  Scripture dealing with that week's topic will also be read and discussed.  Prayer time will also focus on the topic.  Child care in our Nursery will be provided.

If you do not know Jesus we hope and pray that you will come to Our Savior's during this special season.  The meal will give you an opportunity to meet some of the wonderful people who are a part of our faith community.  The worship will be non-threatening and eye-opening.  There is no better time to start your walk with God than these 40 days of Lent.
