Our Savior's to Begin Bible Reading Program

Our Savior's is starting an exciting venture to increase our knowledge of the Bible.  Max Lucado has written a chronological, novel type version of the Bible (The Story) in 31 sections meant to be read over a period of that many weeks.  It works out to be about thirteen pages a week or a couple a day.  The challenge is for everyone in grade six through adults to join this journey together.  Youth will get their own version of the book.  Some people may decide to commit to reading the “regular” Bible over that time frame.  The point is that we will all read the Bible together as a congregation.  This is our first and foundational guideline for our lives as disciples of Jesus at Our Savior’s.  We will begin this effort on October 2 with a personal pledge on our part.  The intent is that our reading would be accomplished for that week by the next Sunday and so on until the beginning of May 2012.  Small  groups will be formed to allow people to discuss and learn from each other what they found interesting or intriguing during each week's readings.  For more information contact Janice Rambo or Pastor Musselman.

Our Savior's Joins Area Churches for 9/11 Rememberance

Our Savior's will join five other churches at 5:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon, September 11 for a special 9/11 remembrance service entitled "The Body, Broken and Remembered".  Hosted by First Presbyterian, this first-time ecumenical communion service, will recognize that while the participating churches come from different backgrounds, God enters into  our brokenness, heals us and then sends us out to do his work.  The other churches participating are First United Methodist, Grace Episcopal, First Baptist and First Christian.  A Mass Choir composed of singers from several denominations will provide music from the balcony of the worship center.  The Youth Dance Troupe from Second Baptist Church will share their ministry of dance.

Lutheran Senior Services Walk to End Alzheimer's

Lutheran Senior Services is a presenting sponsor for the Alzheimer's Association's biggest fundraising party of the year.  The Jefferson City walk will take place on Sunday, September 18 beginning at the State Capitol Grounds.  Registration begins at 11:00 a.m. and the walk begins at 1:00 p.m.  If you would like to walk, visit the Lutheran Senior Services site.  For more information, contact Jim Carlson

ELCA Churchwide Assembly Approves Malaria Campaign

Every 45 seconds a child dies from malaria, a preventable and treatable disease. Now the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) will join with Lutheran churches in Africa, to work toward a malaria-free future. This effort is part of the ELCA Malaria Campaign, officially launched by the ELCA Churchwide Assembly Aug. 15 by a 968-19 vote. A goal of the campaign is to raise $15 million over a four-year period.  Check out this link for more information.
